This has been a few days coming. I keep telling myself to take a short day, but I never do. I sweat all through the night, never cooling down and wake up at 5 to start hiking before it gets hot. Whenever I start walking I begin to feel better. But not today, I feel like I’m racing the sun and I check my phone for the temperature today. 106 degrees.
Hazy Mt. Shasta in the dawn nightI stumble and fall and the holes in my shoes tear wide open. Chainsaws and big machine noises start up since there’s logging all across these hills. Ugh. I keep thinking about the Pacific Northwest, cooler air, something to keep me moving.
Castle Crags, early morning, already hotI’m getting near town, so I decide to get off for the day. It’s been over 2 weeks since a rest day, so I’m in the town of Dunsmuir eating and enjoying AC and plumbing. Plus I get to watch the DNC, which is the only current event I’ve seen in the past 3 months. I have no idea what’s going on in the real world, but apparently Trump is still prominently involved. I think I’ll brave the bears and the heat…
Your grandfather has shared your site with me and I just want to tell you how much I enjoy taking your hike with you….please don’t stop sharing ……your writing and descriptions and pictures are wonderful……..I love ice cream too and wish I could share some with you one day….we are in La Quinta if you come this way again.
I hope you have a spare pair of shoes. I can’t imagine hiking in that heat.
